Grateful

August 24, 2012

So the school week is over and we wrapped up the introduction and the first unit about letter S and Sun.  So far so good.  We’re a day ahead!

The photo above was the start of our shadow measurements.  I had the kids guess what would happen to their shadows through the day and we measured and recorded the length of them.

I had a few discouraging moments through the week, but for the most part P seems to be enjoying it.  I think one key to controlling his behavior is keeping him busy.  But man, how do I keep up with that little man?!  I need double the energy!

There were a couple times this week when I felt entirely grateful for all of the time I get to spend with my kids.  I feel truly blessed to be able to stay home with them.  We’ve had to make some sacrifices along the way, but everyone of them has been worth it.  No amount of money or pleasures is worth time away from my babies!

We wrapped up the week with a poetry picnic with our homeschool group at the park.  I was going to have the kids observe this time and participate next time.  This girl had another plan!  She got right up there and sang Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star!  Love her courage!

I can’t leave my baby girl out.  She hasn’t made an appearance lately!  She’s growing so much!  I love her little personality that is shining through lately.

Summer

May 23, 2012

Today is P’s last day of preschool!  I’m so thankful for his amazing teachers!  It was a blessing we got him into the class last minute before our move last fall.  We’re so grateful for all of their hard work and dedication to the kids.  P came home with so many amazing projects and thoughtful gifts for us!  Sure will miss Mrs. Heather and Mrs. Wendy!

I’m still in disbelief that summer is here and school is out.  That means I need to have a plan and a new routine for the family.

As we were sitting outside yesterday, we brainstormed some things we want to do and came up with themes for each day.

Having a theme for each day will give us a main activity for each day.  We’ll of course be doing lots of other activities throughout the day, but this is a good starting point.

My goal is to have the TV off during the day except for Wild Kratts in the afternoon(my kids love that show plus they learn about animals and their imaginations go wild afterwards which keeps them busy while I’m getting dinner started…double bonus!)

The TV has been off the past week for the most part, and it really does make a world of a difference in their attitudes and the way they interact with each other.

So to go into more detail about our days.  Here are some activities we came up with for each day:

Monday: sunflowers, sailboats, Bat-girl(A)/Superhero crafts, name canvas/boards(art for their bedrooms)

Tuesday: Nature and Science Museum, Zoo, Mountain hike/picnic, Railroad museum, parks(lots of parks this summer!)

Wednesday: Slip N’ Slide, Sponge Bombs, Water Balloon Fights, Water Gun Fights, Sprinkler, Swimming Pool, Water Park

Thursday: Flower Pot Desserts, Chocolate Chocolate Chip Caramel Cookies(P’s request), Puppy Chow, Trail Mix, Fudgsicles

Friday: Park Days with Friends, nature walks, free for all-some of the other activities may slip into this day, but we’ll keep it open to play-dates and laid back fun!  I do plan on doing an outdoor movie at least a couple of times-and one time inviting families to join us!

I’m excited for the kids to play, grow, and explore all summer long!  They are all so tan-I’m sure they’ll be blonde and dark brown by the end of summer!

Domino Skills

April 23, 2012

He concentrates so hard while stacking these.  Thankfully his sister didn’t knock it down.

I was pretty impressed!  He has some mad domino-stacking skills!

Oh it’s time to redo my chalkboard!  It’s been neglected for months now!  Time for a spring quote!

Loving the green yard and full trees we came home to last night!

Counting

April 21, 2012

We’ve been working on counting.  He does a great job and moved onto patterns. Proud of his work. She did a great job but as usual, made me laugh.  By number seven she was done and needed a little help.  She would ask what number it was and then count 1,2,3,4,7 because she wanted to [...]
